Working with local school children, the energy consumers and bill payers of the future, was very successful and great fun for the team. It has been a pleasure working with the schools to improve their understanding and knowledge of climate change and sustainability issues.
Wormery and composting workshop CDT co-ordinated and organised the workshop which was delivered by waste expert Jonathan Kneeshaw and his team of volunteers from a new project called SLan CAN funded by Zero Waste Scotland to help communities, including schools in South Lanarkshire to reduce waste. They offer practical help and advice on:

  • reducing food waste and saving money
  • composting

February 11th will see the return of the Producers’ (Farmers’) Market to Carluke’s Rankin Gait Centre. The market previously took place in 2007 and 2008 and gives the people of Carluke a fantastic opportunity to buy and sample the great range of fresh produce which comes directly from this area.
“The previous Farmers’ Markets were a great success and greatly appreciated by the people of Carluke as a chance to shop locally for produce which has been grown or made not far from their own doors.” said Jonas Cromwell, from event organisers The Carluke Development Trust. “We are proud to be able to bring this event back and look forward to it becoming a regular fixture in the years to come.”
The market will be held under a marquee, ensuring that even if the weather isn’t great the public will be able to take their time in browsing the wide selection, from over 20 local producers, without having to worry about the weather. Also present will be the Glasgow Playbus, a double decker bus which has had its interior converted into a two story adventure playground. This means there will be something for everyone at the market and all the family are welcome.
The market will be taking place between 10am and 2pm. For more information call 07842 704 875 or email carlukedevtrust.energy@hotmail.co.uk
